We Need a Little Christmas Sign + Font & Graphic Bundle GIVEAWAY!
I love color. Always have, always will. This is something my super traditional (a.k.a. boring) husband has finally come to accept after being together for almost 13 years now.
While this fascination with all things bright and bold has only somewhat carried over into our everyday decor (ahem, my son’s former accent wall), holiday decorations are a different story! Colorful and non-traditional are fair game, like my teal and pink shabby chic pumpkin door hanger. Nope, no orange gourds for me!
That’s why I decided to make another fun and festive piece of holiday decor for Christmas. Just like the ‘Making Spirits Bright’ sign I shared last year, this sign is indeed colorful. Because we need a little color….and Christmas….in our lives. :)
Supplies
- Wood board
- White paint
- Spellbound font
- Silhouette Cameo, 12″ x 24″ cutting mat, & blade
- Vinyl
- Red, black, pink, green, & blue
- Transfer & washi tapes
- Scissors, craft tweezers, & scraper
Four Fun Fonts = One Design
I’m a huge lover of Christmas music. It takes a lot of inner strength to avoid cranking up my holiday music playlist before Halloween. Yes, I’m one of those people.
My all-time favorite Christmas song is ‘We Need a Little Christmas’. It’s just so darn peppy and cheerful (especially the Glee version. Spotify it.). I therefore decided to take a line from the chorus and turn it into a fun little sign for our home. I had a spare wood board kicking around, so why not?
I created my design in Silhouette Studio since I’d be cutting it out in vinyl with my Silhouette Cameo….just my favorite crafting tool in the history of ever. It’s a pretty simple design, but it looks fancy thanks to the layering of the fonts.
Yep, the word ‘CHRISTMAS’ is actually made up of three fonts, all layered on top of each other. One font is the colored letters, one adds the white lines in the middle of each letter, and a third adds the funky black outlines.
The four fun fonts that I used in this design are all a part of the Spellbound fonts collection. Ahhh, I just love it when a font has a nice big, coordinating family. #fontaddict

The How-To
I first cut out all the red pieces with my Silhouette Cameo from one piece of vinyl for easy alignment. I used the following cut settings:
- Blade: 3
- Speed: 4
- Thickness: 10
Next, I cut out the black words, then finished up by cutting out the blue, green, and pink vinyl pieces….they were a great way to use up those scraps!
Here are all of my vinyl cuts after being trimmed and weeded, along with the wood board that I painted with some white craft paint:
Next, I slapped some clear transfer tape overtop all the elements then got to applying them. First on was the red piece since the border made it super easy to line up on the board.
Then I added each of the colored letters one at a time just by eyeballing. As you can see, a couple strips of washi tape helped me keep everything level. After those were applied, the last step was adding the black vinyl.
We Need a Little Christmas!
And here it is! Fun and festive, for sure. I can’t wait to add this to our mantel….as soon as I get the rest of the decorations up. At least our tree is good to go. I guess we really do need a little Christmas…. :)
