University of Kentucky Basketball Ornament Wreath

Well, I think everyone knows by now that I love me some wreaths, especially ornament wreaths.  I was also born and raised in the Bluegrass State, so I am a HUGE University of Kentucky Wildcats fan (Go Big Blue!!).  Yes, I know we just started a brand new football season, but no one really cares about that pigskin sport where I’m from….basketball is king in the land of horses, bourbon, and fried chicken.  I combined these two loves of mine into this ornament wreath, and I think it looks quite lovely.

I made this University of Kentucky Basketball Ornament Wreath the same way I created our Fall Ornament Wreath and our NFL House Divided Ornament Wreath.  If you would like a full tutorial, check this out.

How To Make An Ornament Wreath

I used a grapevine wreath form and attached a whole bunch of ornaments and some white tinsel with hot glue.  The ornaments came in a variety of:

  • Colors (blue, white, silver, & some orange basketballs)
  • Textures (shiny, matte, & glittered)
  • Sizes (small, medium, & large)

The ‘Kentucky’ sign came from Coton Colors and was actually called a “tag a long” that was intended to be used as an ornament, a gift tag, or hung around a wine bottle.  I thought it would be just perfect for this project, so I cut off the ribbon and hot glued the wood plaque to ornaments on both sides.  I then repurposed the ribbon and glued it to the back of the wreath for hanging.

I made this wreath a couple years ago as a Christmas gift for my mom, and the “tag a longs” aren’t sold anymore.  I’m glad I decided to grab two of them because I plan on making myself one of these wreaths eventually (it’s on my ever-growing to-do list of projects, which is around 3.82 miles long at the moment).

The fact that these little signs aren’t in production anymore is actually what propelled me to get a Silhouette Cameo….I had casually mentioned to The Hubs that I would like to be able to make things like this myself, and started researching how this may be possible.  Fast-forward a year or two and bam!  I’ve now had my Silhouette for around five months and am totally and completely head over heels in love with it….like, for realz.  It’s my second baby.

Like I mentioned, this UK wreath was a Christmas gift for my mom and it is now displayed year-round in their basement bar.  It looks right at home there too.

Any other UK fans out there??  I know Big Blue Nation is all over!  I’d love to see other Wildcat creations so please share below….but please spare me any Duke nonsense, and especially nothing in that horrible U of L red. ;)

Thanks so much for stopping by!  If you enjoyed what you saw here today, please share the love and pin it!  And I’d love for us to stay connected!
