Spring has sprung, folks! Well, maybe not officially on the calendar yet, but these mid-70 temps sure make it feel so….and I’m certainly not complaining!
One of my favorite things about this time of year, besides the flip flop weather, is all the COLOR! I already have a super colorful Easter egg wreath (slight obsession here with wreaths and door hangers….check out my Project Gallery for proof), so I wanted something that could last beyond Easter itself since it’s a little early this year.
And yes, I know this is a bunny just like the Easter Bunny himself, but since I’m not mentioning the “E” word on it and am instead welcoming Spring, it can last all the way through April! At least that’s what I’m saying.
Keep reading for all the deets on this fella, and be sure to enter the giveaway for a super amazingly awesome font and graphics bundle! Woot!

Painting the Bunny Cutout
Since this bunny cutout is in the shape of a delicious Peep marshmallow treat (which taste the best at two days stale, by the way), I had originally planned on painting it a bright color, a la the real thing. However, I then remembered that I already have a super colorful Spring adornment for my door: the Easter egg yarn wreath I made years ago (and will never make another one. Ever.).
So I instead decided to keep this fella a little more neutral. I first gave the cutout a couple coats of some light brown craft paint with a foam brush. It ended up drying darker than I wanted, but eh, such is crafting.
Cutting & Painting the Stencil
While the brown paint was drying, I got to work on cutting out the stencil. I found a great free file here (love that site!), and scaled it to the size I needed. Then it was time to cut it out!
For this, I used my Silhouette Cameo and some stencil film.
And yes, those little paint sample jars in the pic below were used to keep my cutting mat from shifting mid-cut….you gotta use what you have! ;)
{For more deets on this stencil film, check out my shabby chic Happy Fall pumpkin door hanger….it’s got lots of great info!}
Once the stencil was cut, I weeded (or removed) the excess film, added some clear transfer tape, and aligned it overtop my cutout. Then it was applied using the hinge method (which you can read more about here), one half….
….at a time.
Once it was fully applied, I removed the transfer tape and added in non-used portions to fix/complete the areas that didn’t fully cut along the bottom.
Then I painted on the white craft paint by dabbing it along the non-film portions….
….until the whole bunny was covered.
Once the paint was dry, which didn’t take long at all, I started peeling away the pieces of film.
Cutting & Applying the Vinyl Words
Now that the cutout was painted, it was time for the vinyl decals! Once again, I utilized my Silhouette Cameo for this task.
I had originally planned on using some dark purple and hot pink vinyl for the words, but wouldn’t ya know it that those are two shades that I don’t happen to have on hand at the moment….I’m not good at planning ahead, as you can see.
And since I’m also inpatient and didn’t want to wait for a happy mail order to arrive, I went ahead and used two colors I did have: turquoise and coral. Still very pretty and springy, but not my vision (does that word make me sound like a true arteest?). ;)
The Fonts!
And since I know you’re going to want to know about these fonts, here’s the info! The super pretty script font I used for ‘Spring’ is called Hollyn….just look at all those lovely swirls and twirls!
For ‘Welcome,’ I wanted something a little less fancy so it didn’t compete with ‘Spring,’ so I chose the Sans version of the Signature font….and isn’t the script version just as cool?!
Both of these beauties are currently a part of the fabulous March Bundle from The HungryJPEG! This package includes over 38 amazing fonts as well as nine gorgeous graphic packs (like that Wreath Creator….LOVE!). Oh, and everything includes a full commercial license, too. I know, amazeballs.
This bundle is only available for the month of March (so hurry!) and it’s for 97% off retail. You can also save an additional 20% off by using the discount code Smiles20….or try and score it for free by entering the giveaway below! :)
Adding a Bow & Twine
Ok, now back to this bunny!
Once the vinyl words were applied, I then added a simple yellow bow around the bunny’s neck (and lord, how I dislike bow making!), as well as a strand of twine for hanging. With that, my spring door hanger was finished!
The Completed Spring Bunny Door Hanger!
And here’s my completed spring bunny door hanger! Looks cute, no? It’s not exactly like I had envisioned, but I’m still pleased with it. Plus, it’s quite refreshing seeing it on our door now instead of our UK Basketball snowman….hello warmer temps!
I have to admit that the door hanger is a tad bit busy on the bottom with the white pattern and the words, but hey, I’m too lazy to try and simplify it now. The original colors would have stood out more. Oh wells. I still really like this!
