Personalized Glitter Hair Stylist Ornament + Silhouette GIVEAWAY!
Few things in life make me feel alive like a trip to the salon. Man oh man, how a little highlighting and snip-snipping can make a gal feel like a million bucks.
And oh! Let’s not forget to mention the glorious scalp massage/shampooing….heaven!
I’ve been going to my hair stylist for about three years now. When we moved to AL from KY five years ago, it took me a while to find someone that I loved and trusted with my golden locks, and Sarah is it! She now also cuts my husband’s and three-year-old’s hair….and anyone who can wrangle a threenager for a hair cut is a miracle worker.
That’s why I wanted to make a little somethin’ somethin’ for Sarah to show my appreciation for her, and you can’t go wrong with a personalized glitter ornament!
Keep reading for all the fun details, and be sure you enter the amazing giveaway for LOTS of Silhouette goodies, including a….CAMEO 3!

The Design
While getting beautified by Sarah, I’ve spied an acrylic “S” sitting at her station that is black with gold polka dots, so I decided to stick with those colors for this little gem. That also told me she’s a fan of personalized goodies (who isn’t?), so as soon as I saw this hair stylist split monogram design in the Silhouette Design Store, I knew that I wanted to use it on an ornament for Sarah. Pretty perfect, right?
The font I used for Sarah’s name is called Argon. Isn’t it just the coolest?? You can download it for free here, or get the full version (which includes numbers and a commercial license) here.
I cut the design out in some super shiny metallic gold vinyl with my Silhouette Cameo. It was my first time using this type of vinyl, and I have to say, I might become obsessed with it….it’s soooo shiiiiinnny. More on this below!
How to Make Glitter Ornaments
I’ve already shared a full tutorial on how to make glittered ornaments (and also one on making glittered vases), so I’ll spare you all those details here.
Make sure you check that out for all the sparkly details….and trust me, it’s much easier than you’re probably expecting.
Cutting the Vinyl Decal
I loaded up a sheet of the metallic gold vinyl onto my cutting mat and into my Silhouette Cameo, then got to cutting out Sarah’s decal.
The cut settings I used were:
- Blade: 3
- Speed: 4
- Thickness: 10
See how shiny the vinyl is! It’s not often you can take a selfie in your craft supplies….even if it looks like you’re in a fun house at a carnival. #superpointynose
I was a little nervous at first that some parts of the design would be too tiny and intricate to cut correctly at such a small size. However, I shouldn’t have doubted my Cameo or this vinyl, because everything cut perfectly! Even those little prongs on the comb. I just love it when that happens.
For the most part, everything weeded great too. I did have some issues with the ‘H’ though, but that was more due to me being impatient and not paying enough attention. Haha, whoops!
Oh well. I just had to cut out that letter a second time and apply it separately. No biggie.
Once some clear transfer tape was applied over top, I eyeballed the decal’s placement and then applied it to the ornament using the hinge method, which you can read more about here. The second “H” I mentioned above got added last.
After the vinyl was applied, all that was left was adding a cute coordinating bow to the top and Sarah’s ornament was complete!
Sarah’s Completed Hair Stylist Ornament!
And here’s Sarah’s completed hair stylist ornament! Super cute, no? It’s also got a cool, badass vibe to it, which matches Sarah’s style and personality. I hope she likes it!
(Let me also state that it is quite difficult getting a decent picture of something that has both black glitter inside clear plastic and metallic gold on top. Talk about crazy reflections!)
