Gift Wrap Organizer Cart with Colorful DIY Drawer Labels
The Scary Before
So here’s how our collection of gift wrap supplies looked before this organization project.
Can you say “hot mess”??
Yikes, indeed.
When we moved in a few years ago, everything was literally shoved into our guest room’s closet, and more supplies have been periodically added to it (thank you, Target clearance!).
Our organizing “method” consisted of tossing the new stuff on top and crossing your fingers that you could close/open the closet doors without triggering an avalanche.
Our previous storage container for rolls of wrapping paper worked for a while, but it’s too short for the longer rolls, so those were just ditched to the side.
Also, gift bags, boxes, bows, and labels (in there somewhere) all managed to get lost/crushed in the abyss.
And oh! That poor, poor tissue paper. My sincerest apologizes, colorful, crinkly friends.
You have no idea how much this pained my organization-loving soul.
I’ve been dreaming of getting this gift wrap cart for literally YEARS, and this January I snagged one after finally having enough with our closet catastrophe…and it was ON SALE for 30% off (plus I also scored an additional 12% cash back…what a deal!). They also have one in platinum with a brown top, but the all white goes well with my craft room.
Supplies
Here’s what I used to craft these colorful DIY drawer labels on my new gift wrap organizer cart…they were SO easy:
- Gift Wrap Organizer Cart
- Clip-on drawer label holders
- Silhouette Cameo
- Vinyl
- White
- Dark Pink
- Light Pink
- Mint
- Lavender
- Light Blue
- Scissors
- Craft tweezers
- Washi tape
Making the DIY Labels
If you’re following me on Instagram (thanks!), you might’ve seen that I was surprised with a new Cricut Maker for Christmas.
Well, it’s still in the box (new technology is so intimidating!), so I used my trusty old Silhouette Cameo to cut out the words on these labels in vinyl.
Here’s how my label mockup looked in Silhouette Studio (and if you’re interested in the font that I used, you can find it here):
Here are the cut settings I used when cutting out the words in white vinyl (my blade is very well-loved so that’s why it’s set to 5):
Once the words were cut, I weeded them with my craft tweezers…
…then cut out rectangles in five different colors of vinyl to serve as the label backgrounds.
Once the rectangles were ready, I applied the words one at a time using a strip of washi tape.
After popping them inside their clip-on holders and snapping them shut, the labels were ready to go!
Here they all are in their lovely, colorful, labeled glory.
And yes, I did let out a little chuckle as I applied the “LABELS” decal…I mean, it’s a label for labels.
It’s kinda like labeling your label maker with a “Label Maker” label you made with your label maker. :)
The Finished Gift Wrap Organizer Cart with DIY Labels!
And here’s our cart all filled and labeled and ORGANIZED!
You all literally have NO IDEA how much time I have spent gazing at this beauty. What can I say…organization just sets my heart a’flutter.
Now all of our gift wrapping supplies have designated homes, are easy to find, and won’t get inadvertently damaged.
Now if my husband comes asking where the Christmas gift labels are this December, he’s getting a shoe thrown at his head. Just kidding. I’ll aim for his shin. ;)
These drawers and their colorful labels are simply amazing.
Organization shall set you free, my friends.
And who doesn’t love a good before-and-after, amiright?
What a difference!
