The Inspiration

It was back-to-school time and I was strolling through the aisles of one of Earth’s most incredible places: Target. While trying to finish off my son’s supply list, my eyes fell upon one of cutest office supplies I’ve ever seen: a miniature backpack pencil case!

Everything is better as a mini, and I knew right then on that summer day that I would be using it for the end-of-year gifts that Rowan would give to his teachers…kudos to me for planning that far ahead, amiright? *pats self on back*

I’d stuff that sucker full of useful supplies and finish it off with an adorable little puntastic gift tag:

“Thanks for always having my back at school this year.”

Get it?? “Thanks for always having my BACK” on a mini BACKPACK?!? Oh, I am just so hilarious, I swear. ;)

Supplies

Here’s what I used to put these teacher gifts together:

• Mini backpack pencil case (also available here)
• Supplies
  • Lots of writing utensils (pens, pencils, highlighters, Sharpies, etc.)
  • Pack of crayons
  • Pack of colored chalk
  • Tape
  • Glue stick
  • Gift card
  • Lip balm
  • Mints
• White cardstock
• Printer
• Silhouette Cameo (a Cricut -OR- scissors & hole punch would work just fine too)
• Ribbon

PRINTING & CUTTING OUT THE GIFT TAGS

Since I am totally obsessed with my Silhouette Cameo, I did a print & cut project with these little guys and printed out three tags on one 8.5×11 sheet of white cardstock, just to add some extra sturdiness. You could also print them out on regular paper or some photo paper.

Don’t have a Silhouette or Cricut? No problem! Just use a pair of scissors and a hole punch to cut these to size. Easy as can be!

They’re sized roughly 3×4.5 and are the perfect little tag to personalize and hang with some cute ribbon.

The ‘Thanks for Always Having My Back’ Teacher Gifts!

These pencil cases surprisingly hold a ton of supplies! I jammed ours full of all kinds of different writing utensils, packs of crayons and colored chalk, a roll of tape, a glue stick, some lip balm, a gift card, and a pack of mints.

I also thought about personalizing the front of the mini backpacks with each of the teachers’ names using my Silhouette Cameo and some heat transfer vinyl, but ultimately decided to forgo that step. All three ladies have their own kids and/or grandkids, so I thought the kiddos may see it and want to hijack it for themselves. :)

But personalizing the actual mini backpack with the recipient’s name or monogram would be fun too!
