Here’s an incredibly easy storybook pumpkin idea that everyone is sure to love this fall!
Because let’s be honest: farts are kinda funny, and in this case, definitely cute, too.
This is a unique storybook character to add to any literary pumpkin patch, and it’s sure to bring plenty of smiles (and probably some giggles).
I honestly never thought I’d be blogging about farts, yet here we are.
It’s funny where life takes you.
Apologies in advance for all the times I’m going to have to write the word in this post, as well as for any cringe-inducing puns.
I know they’ll be poot-iful.
Easy Storybook Pumpkin Idea: Meet Fart
My youngest son, Brayden, is now in the second grade, and his elementary school puts on some really fun events.
We’ve done everything from Valentine’s Day cards and boxes and a vocabulary parade, to an idiom parade and a book character dress-up parade.
Heck, we’ve even partaken in an Easter hat parade.
Storybook Character Pumpkin Patch
Another cool event the school hosts is their annual Storybook Pumpkin Patch located inside the school’s library.
This is held every October where they invite students to decorate a pumpkin to look like one of their favorite characters from a storybook.
Then, families are invited to come and see all the creations and vote with pocket change (or bills if you’re feeling extra generous) for their favorites.
All the money raised is then donated to a local nonprofit called The Caring Link, who install and maintain on-campus Care Closets within public schools that are fully stocked with basic essentials for any student in need.
Even though I might be a little biased here because I’m a board member for The Caring Link (and we are always so appreciative of donations!), this event is really a fun one and all of the kiddos’ creations are beyond adorable.
Here was Brayden’s submission last year: a Pokémon storybook character pumpkin of Pikachu’s evolutions.
No One Likes a Fart Book
When Brayden was going through his book collection looking for ideas for this year’s storybook pumpkin, I knew he had found something…ummm…special when he came out of his room looking extra mischievous.
And when I saw what book he held in his hands, I knew it was perfect.
Not only is it the absolute best character choice for Brayden (he is all boy and as such finds farts HILARIOUS), but the crafty mom in me actually appreciated the simplicity of the character.
I mean, just look at Fart.
He could be turned into a pumpkin form so dang easily.
Just add the adorable face and glue on some skinny arms and legs, and maybe the whoooosh behind him, then let ‘er rip!
Easy Storybook Pumpkin Fart Supplies
Here’s what we used to whip up this Fart:
- No One Likes a Fart book
- It’s super cute and has a good message about self-acceptance and friendship
- Medium-sized greenish brown heirloom pumpkin
- Black and white puffy paint (craft paint or a Sharpie would work fine too)
- A couple black pipe cleaners
- Glue
- Optional:
How to Make a Storybook Pumpkin Fart
I found the perfectly shaped, sized, and colored heirloom pumpkin from our local Publix store.
The best part about it was the color: greenish brown, just like our little Fart friend!
That meant no need to paint his…body? Form? Puff of noxious odor?
So Brayden got to work in my craft room adding the cute little eyes, expressive eyebrows, and cheeky little grin using puffy paint.
Once that was dry, we glued on some black pipe cleaners with the ends transformed into tiny little hands or feet.
The last step of this simple storybook pumpkin was adding Fart’s white whooooosh.
We’re not really sure if that part is Fart’s fart or just showing his movement through the air, but we wanted to include it since it’s on the book’s cover and most of the pages.
Plus it’s just a fun little silent but {not} deadly addition.
To make this, we just fished some floral wire through white tulle, scrunching and bunching it as we went along, and folding the ends to secure it.
Once two bunches were made, they were taped to the bottom (tape was quicker and easier than messing with glue for the wire).
And that was it!

The cutest little Fall fart you’ve ever seen, right?
As you can see, Brayden was very pleased with his creation and couldn’t wait to take his buddy to school.
Toot-ally adorable.
