Today is Day 3 of our weeklong Holiday Craft Party, and I along with four of my crafting buddies are sharing creations using mason jars!
Everybody knows the old holiday saying “Eat, drink, and be merry.” Well, since the particular jar I’d be using is for drinking, I decided to drop the whole eating part. After all, it’s what’s in the eggnog that can really lead to some jolly good fun, if ya know what I’m saying.
I cut out this simple holiday saying in some vinyl and jazzed up a plastic mason jar that has a cute burlap and green chevron insert, handle, lid, and straw….and the best part is that I got it 70% off at Michaels! A Christmas miracle, indeed! ;)

‘Drink and Be Merry’ Christmas Mason Jar
Supplies
- Burlap and green chevron mason jar
- Vinyl: red & white
- Silhouette Cameo & cutting mat
- Transfer tape, scraper tool, & strip of painter’s tape
- Decorative ribbon (only if you like to be extra fancy when enjoying tasty libations) ;)
The Vinyl Decal
I created my design in Silhouette Studio and used my Silhouette Cameo to create the vinyl decal. I first cut out the background layer in red vinyl, and the top inner layer in white, then weeded or removed the excess vinyl (my craft tweezers were a huge aid in getting all those teeny tiny cuts out!). Both pieces also included registration marks at the top to allow for easy layering.
Layering the Vinyl
For a full rundown on how to use registration marks and layer vinyl, check out this tutorial!
All I did here was apply some transfer tape over top the white vinyl and also cut away the paper backing so only the two white registration marks were ready to be applied. Then I carefully aligned the two white rectangles over top their red counterparts….
….then peeled away the rest of the paper backing from the white vinyl, and used my scraper tool to fully apply everything. Now I had a beautifully (and nearly perfectly) layered vinyl decal!
Ahhh, it’s such a sign of relief to see a successful layering project. Definitely sets my OCD nerves at ease.
Applying the Vinyl
Now it was finally time to apply the vinyl decal to the mason jar. For this I used the hinge method with a strip of painter’s tape, and applied one side of the decal at a time.
You can read more about this nearly fool-proof application method here!
The Completed ‘Drink and Be Merry’ Christmas Mason Jar!
And here’s my final ‘Drink and Be Merry’ Christmas mason jar! I think it is just so stinkin’ cute. I love how the red and white lettering POPS off the green and burlap. At first I was a little concerned that the words would be too busy on top of the chevron background, but that’s not the case at all….it looks quite lovely!
And don’t you always drink with a big bow nestled at the base of your straw too? No? I’m the only one?? ;)
This is the perfect little cup to enjoy some holiday beverages….I think I have some apple cider chilling in the fridge right now! :)

I love this! What is the name of that font, and where did you find it? Did you add those flouishes (like the one on the "y"), or is that a part of the font?
I just got a cameo last week, and I am loving your blog!

Thanks for the kind words, Cristie! The font is called Amethyst and it's one of my favorites! It comes with a lot of different glyphs (or cute swirly options for different letters) and you can easily preview/change them right in Silhouette Studio. The file comes with the regular Amethyst font file then separate font files with all the glyphs. It's not a free font but I bought it in a monthly font bundle. So worth it! :)
