DIY ‘Hello, My Name Is’ Personalized Newborn Onesie

If you’ve been following along in these parts, you’re probably aware that I recently gave birth to my second son.  Yep, early October brought us another bouncing baby boy (!!!), and since his momma here is a crafty gal, I of course had to put my Silhouette Cameo to good use and whip up some cute onesies for him!  I’ll look for any excuse to slap vinyl on something.

Here I’ll be sharing how I made one particular piece of attire that announced Little Man’s name in a cheeky way….a giant stereotypical name tag that you’ve probably seen at the latest mixer or PTA meeting.  Since baby announcements are now mainly shared via social media (but I still love me some snail mail), how appropriate to share his pic along with his name in full view, right?

And don’t miss the extra specialness of this post either!  I’m teaming up with over 20 other crafty bloggers who are sharing fun vinyl projects of their own, and you’ll want to check them all out.  I’ve also got some info on a great new Craftsy class that’s for all things vinyl for your Silhouette, AND we’ve got a HUGE giveaway for you too….Cameo 3, vinyl, and Craftsy class anyone?  Keep reading for your chance to win!

DIY ‘Hello, My Name Is’ Personalized Newborn Onesie + GIVEAWAY!

So here’s how we announced the arrival of our newest little man to most of our family and friends: social media, of course!  Not only does it feature an adorable picture of our nugget (I am *slightly* biased), but it also clearly states his name so no one can miss it.

Supplies

Here’s what I used to knock out this quick and easy DIY project just two days (yep, two days!) before my due date, which also happened to be his date of arrival.  I appreciate his punctuality.

The Quick How-To

Since I’ve already shared tons of projects featuring my Silhouette and HTV (and also because I’m incredibly sleep-deprived and can barely keep my eyes open let alone find time to pull out my laptop), I’ll spare all the details here again.  However, please check out some of these other creations I’ve shared from my Project Gallery if you’d like all of the fun step-by-steps:

Here’s the super quick how-to for this onesie:

  1. I first created my design in Silhouette Studio by drawing two rectangles (with rounded corners) and then added the text.
  2. After loading up the blue and green HTV sheets one at a time onto my cutting mat and into my Silhouette Cameo, I finalized the cut settings (the default ones for Heat Transfer Material: Smooth), then cut out the pieces….remember to mirror first!
  3. Next, I weeded the cuts then ironed them onto the pre-washed onesie using the Cotton setting on my clothes iron.

Hello, His Name Is Brayden!

And here’s my cute little model showing off his new duds and announcing his name to the world.  Ya gotta love being able to whip up custom attire in no time thanks to the amazingness of the Silhouette!

HUGE Silhouette, Vinyl, & Craftsy Class Giveaway!

As promised, there’s EXTRA fun in this post too!  Wahoo!

Have you heard of Craftsy?  It’s basically a collection of online video classes in all things DIY that allow you to learn new skills at your own pace.  They’ve got everything: Silhouette and paper crafting, cake decorating, cooking, woodworking, gardening, photography, sewing, knitting, crochet, jewelry making, and more….basically if it’s a DIY skill, they’ve got you covered (and there’s lots of FREE classes to try out too)!

I can personally vouch for the quality of their courses because I’m a student myself!  Yep, I’m currently learning how to crochet with their Crochet: Basics & Beyond class….and I’m very thankful for the learning-at-your-own-pace and classes-never-expiring thing since, ya know, I’ve got two wee ones now.

I’ve also given several Craftsy classes to some crafty family members so they can choose what type of skills or projects they’d like to learn, and they’ve had nothing but positives to say either.

My bloggy buddy Alexis from Persia Lou is not only super talented in all her DIYs, but she’s also launching her very own Craftsy class that teaches you all about using vinyl with your Silhouette.  It’s called Silhouette Saavy: Venture into Vinyl, and as your instructor, she’ll walk you through everything you need to know to knock out amazing vinyl projects in no time!
