Take a Tour of Our Navy & Orange Modern Woodland Nursery!

Well, it’s finally finished, folks!  My second son, Brayden, was born last October, and I’m finally getting around to sharing all the details about his navy and orange modern woodland nursery….only nine months late! :)

What can I say….life with a baby and three-year-old leaves me with precious little computer time.  But better late than never!

Take a tour of Brayden’s adorable-but-not-too-baby nursery.  I hope you like it! [Read more…]

Spring Bunny Door Hanger + Another HUGE Font Giveaway!

Spring has sprung, folks!  Well, maybe not officially on the calendar yet, but these mid-70 temps sure make it feel so….and I’m certainly not complaining!

One of my favorite things about this time of year, besides the flip flop weather, is all the COLOR!  I already have a super colorful Easter egg wreath (slight obsession here with wreaths and door hangers….check out my Project Gallery for proof), so I wanted something that could last beyond Easter itself since it’s a little early this year. Univ. of Kentucky Basketball Snowman Door Hanger

Howdy, guys!  I know it’s been awhile since I’ve shared anything here recently….my apologies!  I’ve been a little preoccupied in my personal offline life lately, but moving tends to do that to ya.  Yep, we just moved into a new abode a few weeks ago!

So. much. packing.  And unpacking.  And cleaning!  Ugh, indeed.

I somehow managed to find the energy to get my craft on again and I’m back {finally} with a new post….the first one from the new house too!  Woot Woot! [Read more…]

The Top Ten Posts of 2015 Here at WTSHB!

Well, 2015 is (almost) officially in the books now!  Cray, cray, I know.  They say time goes by more quickly as you get older, and I definitely believe it….it’s almost going by at warp speed now, so I must be getting really old! :)

It’s always fun to look back and reminisce over the year that was, and since this was my first full year blogging, I thought I’d take a trip down memory lane and find out what the top posts for this year have been.  I did a mid-year check, and while those reader faves appear below too (naturally), I was a little surprised by the results. 25 Creative Christmas Crafts!

Last week was a first here at WTSHB: I shared a new post every. single. day!  Well, except for Saturday, but I had TWO posts go live on that Sunday prior, so needless to say, I was one tired gal!

Five of those posts were part of a fun blog hop with a group of other super talented ladies for our 2015 Holiday Craft Party!  We had a different theme everyday, and here are all of our creations in one easy to find place.  Feel free to browse through all for lots of inspiration!

Oh, and thanks to everyone who [Read more…]

Whimsical Painted Christmas Stocking Door Hanger

You all probably know by now that I have a not-so-slight addiction to making wreaths and door hangers….yep, I have more than a few.  However, I’ve yet to fully dive in and paint one by hand from start to finish, and by that I mean no spray paint, no stencils, no vinyl decals.  Basically NO HELP of any kind.  Just me and my (not very) artistic ability.

Well that all changed a couple weeks ago when I spent a Saturday evening at a local repurposing/vintage/artsy store that was holding a “paint your own stocking door hanger” night.  Being a stay-at-home-mom with no friends [Read more…]

Shabby Chic Happy Fall Pumpkin Door Hanger: My Girly Gourd

I just can’t stop making wreaths and door hangers!  I have a sickness, people!  This is especially the case for fall, as a quick glance at my Project Gallery will confirm.

For my latest creation here, though, I decided to take a non-traditional approach to fall decor, and it is just ooooooozing with girliness (much to my husband’s dismay).  Yes, if a pumpkin can be girly, I think what I’m sharing today pretty much fits the bill.  And I absolutely LOVE it! Year-Round Happy Everything Wreath: A Coton Colors Knock Off!

If you haven’t already noticed, I have a not-so-slight obsession with wreaths.  I just love ’em!  They’re such an easy way to add some spunk to your home and celebrate any occasion.  They are also super simple to DIY….just check out my Project Gallery to see all the ones I’ve made so far.

For some time now, I’ve been pondering the idea of creating a year-round wreath that I can display, well, year-round, or at least during those in-between times that don’t really have or warrant a specific wreath (I’m looking at you August!).  I also happen to love — and I mean LOVE — color (much to my [Read more…]

Patriotic USA Map Wooden Door Hanger: Perfect for Memorial Day and Fourth of July!

By now, y’all know how I love me some wreaths.  Just check out my Project Gallery to see all the ones I’ve made so far.  I seemed to already have ones for nearly every holiday or time of year (even for UK basketball season!)….except summer.  I know….crazy, indeed.

I’ve since rectified this decor dilemma with my newly created patriotic USA map wooden door hanger.  Now we can proudly display this American flag-esque beauty on our door from May through July….or possibly even year-round (I mean, I am married to an Army vet so we’re all about American pride in these parts)! Spring Easter Egg Wreath

Ahhhhh, it’s almost springtime again!  Our winters down here in Alabama are pretty mild, but I still am so excited for spring to arrive and send the cold(ish) weather packing!  Warmer temps, regrowth of all the greenery and blooming flowers, birds chirping away…..the arrival of spring is just good for the soul, don’t you think? Dual-Sided Valentine’s Day Door Hanger

So it’s pretty clear to me (and maybe you guys, too!) that I may have a not-so-slight obsession with making wreaths.  I just can’t help myself….burlap, ornaments, wood, mesh, balloons, Easter eggs….I’ll try just about anything in the name of decor!

You may have recently seen the red burlap heart wreath I made for Valentine’s Day, and one lovey dovey wreath is probably enough for a single home.  Right?  Well, I’m sure that’s the case for most normal people, but as my husband frequently reminds me, I am not normal. [Read more…]

Valentine’s Burlap Heart Wreath with Couple’s Monogram

Ahhhh, it’s almost Valentine’s Day….a day of lovey-dovey goodness (and let’s not forget the chocolate!).  What screams “Valentine’s” more than a pretty red heart adorned with a couple’s initials intertwined into an elegant monogram??  Not much!  Ok, maybe a chubby little cupid, but I’m not crafty enough to make one of those guys!

Here I’ll show you how I made this red burlap heart wreath with a monogram of my and my husband’s initials….romantic indeed!  (And oh so easy!)

DIY Christmas Ornament Wreath

Y’all know I love me some wreaths, especially of the ornament variety, so I of course had to make one for Christmas.  I mean, out of all the holidays, this one makes the most sense to have an ornament wreath for, right?!

I actually made this particular wreath last year….looong before the thought of creating a blog ever crossed my mind.  Therefore, I don’t have any step-by-step pictures for you….sorry.  However, I do already have a tutorial showing how I make my ornament wreaths, and that is the [Read more…]

How to Make a Burlap Wreath

Burlap wreaths have been all the rage for a while now, and they probably will continue to be because: 1) they’re cute; 2) they’re versatile and can easily be decorated and adapted for different holidays/seasons; and 3) they’re super simple to make….Scout’s honor!

Here I’ll show you how to make a burlap wreath….and you’ll have a custom, inexpensive, and cute project in under 30 minutes!  (Ok, I feel like I just did a little Rachael Ray 30-Minute Meals intro there…) [Read more…]

Halloween Ornament Wreath

I love all things October and Halloween: the colorful foliage, the cooler weather, the costumes, and (of course) the CANDY!

Since this time of year is a favorite of mine, I thought it was only appropriate to make a wreath to display (I do also love me some wreaths after all!).  I wanted this wreath to have the obvious orange and black color scheme, but also some bright purple and green scattered in to make it more playful and fun…just a tad bit untraditional, you know? University of Kentucky Basketball Ornament Wreath

Well, I think everyone knows by now that I love me some wreaths, especially ornament wreaths.  I was also born and raised in the Bluegrass State, so I am a HUGE University of Kentucky Wildcats fan (Go Big Blue!!).  Yes, I know we just started a brand new football season, but no one really cares about that pigskin sport where I’m from….basketball is king in the land of horses, bourbon, and fried chicken.  I combined these two loves of mine into this ornament wreath, and I think it looks quite lovely. Pumpkin Wreath Tutorial Using Deco Mesh

Well, The Hubs has been out of town all week on a business trip in Hawaii (lucky dog!), so that didn’t leave me a lot of time to get my craft on.  The Cub kept me quite busy.  I did, however, get one project completed….this super cute (and easy!) pumpkin wreath.

The best part about this project is that I already had all the supplies on hand.  That almost never happens!  Plus, it only took me an hour or so to make.  Here, I’ll provide you with a step-by-step tutorial [Read more…]

How To Make An Ornament Wreath

I love creating wreaths, not only for the major holidays, but also just to add some festive decor for the other fun times of the year as well.  I especially love making ornament wreaths.  They are very easy to create and look quite professional when complete.  Since it’s quickly approaching football season again (“I’m feelin’ kinda Sunday….”), I made us a “House Divided” wreath since that is what we are, at least in our professional football allegiance.  Here I’ll walk you through a step-by-step tutorial of how I created this ornament wreath, and the technique can be applied for wreaths of any occasion or celebration. NFL House Divided Ornament Wreath

The Backus household is a house divided, at least when it comes to where our allegiances in professional football lie.  I was born and raised in northern Kentucky just a few miles south of the Queen City, so I’m a Cincinnati Bengals fan (as painful as it often is….which is nearly every season).  The Hubs, on the other hand, is from Maine, so he throws his full support behind the New England Patriots.  This causes some (playful) tension for us from September to January (or February if the Pats make it to the Super Bowl [Read more…]
